Preparing a turkey ham sandwich is perhaps my second most favourite meal to prepare. Right after my recipe for scrambled eggs. I absolutely love turkey!
Turkey breast meat for a good protein-packed, post-workout snack. Roasted turkey at a Christmas dinner with friends. A sandwich whenever I'm hungry and there are no eggs at home to prepare scrambled eggs!
Healthier choice of protein
Turkey is a form of white meat, and it has been shown that white meat is significantly much healthier than red meat. Red meats have been found to raise the risk of colon cancer after prolonged consumption.
Turkey has also been found to provide a large amount of protein for you, more so than tuna and eggs. Therefore, if you feel that eggs will be unhealthy due to the yolk, you now have a wonderful substitute for them!
Low in fat
Thought of putting on some muscle but you want to make sure that you won't gain additional pounds? Turkey provides a large amount of clean protein minus the unwanted fat, so your waistline will thank you.
Rich in nutrients
This meat contains a great deal of nutrients like vitamins B, B1, B6, potassium and zinc, which are essential for many of your body's natural processes. Who needs multivitamin tablets when you've got, umm, turkey!
Prevention of diseases
The goodness does not stop there. A recent study has shown that consuming turkey more often will lower your blood cholesterol and for the ladies, lower the risk of birth defects.
On top that, it will also strengthen and improve your immune system, protecting you from unwanted illnesses and viruses like the common flu.
I do use egg for this recipe, but it is your call if you want to remove it from the sandwich. But I must warn you, you're removing a delicious ingredient!
Ingredients
*For the egg, you could also opt to fry it using olive oil, or make scrambled eggs, or even an omelette of your choice!
Directions
Place two slices of turkey ham, then cover it with the egg, lettuce and tomato. Cover the vegetables with another two slices of ham before sprinkling it generously with cheese.
Toast it in your oven at 120 degrees Celsius for about 10 minutes before serving it warm. Sink your teeth in it, and weep!
I do hope you will have fun trying out this recipe! It is absolutely delicious, simple to prepare and is healthy! Recipes for quick healthy meals have always been around. Now, you need to start preparing them!
You can choose to be more adventurous, you can add other vegetables to the mix as well. Green peppers, cucumber, or even a dash of your favourite low-fat sauce!
If adding a tangy edge of mayonnaise will set your juices flowing, I don't see why you should deny yourself of a treat once in a while! I do hope you're enjoying the many recipes I offer on this site. Do let me know how it's working out for you! (:
